MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana blanked St Anthony Sports Club, Colva 2-0 to move into the final of Young Strikers All-Goa football tournament organised by Young Strikers, Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
At the end of first half, the teams failed to score.
From the start, both the teams tried to get the lead but their defence guarded the goal well.
Curtorim Gymkhana in the ninth minute missed a scoring opportunity as Seby Martins’ grounder hit the cross piece of St Anthony goal and rebound into play.
Thereafter, in the 19th minute, a opportunity was missed by St Anthony after Jesus Cardoza’s header was saved by the Curtorim custodian.
In the 27th minute, Curtorim Gymkhana missed the mark when Jameson Noronha’s rasping grounder went wide. Joaquim Carvalho had provided the assist.
Crossing over, Curtorim Gymkhana in the 41st minute tried to attack the rival goal through Mario Mascarenhas and substitute Melvin Fernandes but St Anthony goalkeeper was equal to the task.
St Anthony also had their piece of luck in the 43rd minute but Jovisco Fernandes header missed the nylons of the rival goal after receiving a cross from Joseph Pereira.
Curtorim Gymkhana finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute through Mario Mascarenhas as the latter headed in off a cross by Joaquim Carvalho.
Subsequently, Mario could have scored another goal but his long ranger hit the goal post of Colva and went out of play.
Thereafter, Curtorim Gymkhana doubled their advantage in the 55th minute through substitute Melvin Fernandes’ grounder.
