CURTORIM: Curtorim Veterans defeated Assolda Veterans 3-1 via the tie-breaker to move into the final of Curtorim Veterans football tournament at DYSA ground, Curtorim, on Thursday.
Curtorim Veterans had the best chance in the 6th minute, Jimmy D’Costa dribbled past Krishna Shirodkar of Assolda Veterans and connected the ball to Johny D’Cruz, who was lurking in Assolda Veterans box, but his shot from close range was saved by the rival goalkeeper.
Minguel Bareto of Assolda Veterans could have netted in the 10th minute but Seby Faleiro of Curtorim Veterans foiled his move. In the 20th minute, Jerry Colaco of Assolda Veterans released a long ranger but Glorio D’Mello goalkeeper of Curtorim Veterans pushed away the ball to safety. Seby Vaz of Curtorim Veterans’ header missed the rival net off a corner kick cross from Roque Carneiro.
Oliveira D’Silva of Curtorim Veterans passed the ball to Jimmy but his left-footed effort went inches past the rival goal in the 38th minute.
In the 43rd minute, Jimmy tried a solo with a long ranger but the rival goalkeeper saved it.
Crossing over, in the 50th minute, Jimmy and Roque of Curtorim Veterans tried made an effort inside Assolda Veterans box but Krishna thwarted their move.
At the end of regulation time, the teams settled for a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Curtorim Veterans netted through Jimmy D’Costa, Oliveira D’Silva and Roque Carneiro while Pele Xavier scored the lone goal for Assolda Veterans.
Curtorim Veterans will now lock horns with the winners of Bardez Veterans and Vasco Veterans in the final on Sunday.
