PANJIM: Damodar English High School, Gudi-Paroda defeated Fr Agnel High School, Pilar to emerge State champions in U-17 boys hockey tournament organised by DSYA, at Fatorda ground, recently.
Shahjahan Momeen opened the account within 30 seconds with a deflection after receiving the pass from Gautam Gaonkar. Damodar side accelerated the pace of the match but faced a lot of resistance from the rival side. At half-time Damodar EHS were leading by 1–0.
The Second half was equally fought in the initial stage but Damodar Boys overpowered and displayed their dominance on Fr Agnel’s defence. Shahjahan Momeen doubled the lead as he scored by scooping the ball in the far left side of the net beating the goal keeper hands down.
Ishwar Gaonkar scored the third goal by sounding the board with a rasping drive right from the top of the striking circle.
Earlier, in the South district final Damodar English High School defeated St Rita High School, Maina 3-1. It was St Rita High school who scored the first goal in the 15th minute of the first half.
On crossing over, Damodar side pressed hard for the equaliser and got the equaliser 10th minute of the second half through Ishwar Gaonkar. Vithoba Borkar scored the second goal while Akshay Gaonkar added another to the tally in the 27th minute thus sealing the victory for Damodar EHS.
The team was coached by the Headmaster, Norbert Fernandes and PE teacher, Amit Dessai and managed by Sanjay Gauns Dessai.
