MARGAO: St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda shunted out host Sporting Club of Davorlim 5-4 via the tie-breaker to march into the semi-final of all-Goa Davorlim Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Sporting Club of Davorlim, at Panchayat ground, Davorlim, on Friday. There was no score at the end of regulation period.
Midway, St Anthony asserted their supremacy Sunny Fernandes who was in thick action came close in foisting the lead but his try missed the mark narrowly.
Egged by the home crowd, Sporting Club of Davorlim did not leg behind as they fired couple of sorties against the rival citadel and striker Maclon Colaco nearly broke the deadlock but rival goalkeeper was equal to the task and averted the danger.
The second session continued in same vein with both the teams showed urgency and went all out.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Jaison Dias, Sydney Vaz, Sunny Fernandes, Ivan Vaz and Julio Fernandes found the mark for St Anthony while Sachin Ashtekar, Agnelo Colaco, Stanley Fernandes and Maclon Colaco scored for Sporting Club of Davorlim.
Wilred Leisure Sports Club will now meet Navelim Villagers Union in the first semi-final on March 14 while St Anthony face Verna Sports Club in the second semi-final on March 15.
