MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim blanked Navelim Villagers Union 2-0 to march into the semi-finals of All-Goa Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Dando Boys Club of Benaulim at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, Tuesday. There was no score at half time.
The teams started on a cautious note and once they struck the rhythm they called the shots at either end. Davorlim took control midway in the opening session but their forwards shot wayward from ideal positions.
Navelim did not lag behind as they had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards were guilty of misfiring from hand-shaking distance.
Post resumption, Davorlim showed urgency and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
Persistent forays paid of dividends and in the 45th minute striker Maclon Colaco slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement.
Spurred by the success, Davorlim mounted the pressure and doubled the lead in the 75th minute when Cliffton Rebello finished clinically.
Navelim went all out and created many openings with their strikers launched barrage of attacks and nearly reduced the deficit but striker Alvito Colaco shot wide much to the disbelief of the Navelim supporters.
Subsequently, Alvito missed another golden opportunity after being set up on the platter by Jaison Pereira.
