Dempo SC demolish Curtorim Gymkhana

MARGAO: In a one sided match, Dempo Sports Club humiliated Curtorim Gymkhana 10-0 in the Taca Goa U-20 football tournament organized by GFA at outside Nehru Stadium, Fatorda ground on Wednesday.

In the first half, Dempo were leading 4-0.
Dempo scored the first four goals in the 25 minutes of play. They found the net early in the fifth minute through Salu Santos’ fierce shot which straight landed into the rival nets off a cross by Jolitan Fernandes. Dempo doubled the lead in the 12th minute through Shyam Mormo’s ground shot from a close range off a supply by Salu.
Jolitan in the run-up to the goal tapped the ball as the referee awarded a penalty kick. In the resultant spot kick, Edwin Viegas’ shot was fisted away by the Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper. In the goal melee, the lurking Jolitan made no mistake in netting the ball home.
Thereafter, Curtorim Gymkhana made an attempt to score but Crasten Araujo’s shot was saved by Dempo goalkeeper Flezbern Souza in the 20th minute. 
Dempo again scored to make it 4-0 through Nester Dias’ grounder shot off a cross by Salu.
Changing over, Dempo pumped in more six goals and saw referee giving marching orders to Josly Costa of Curtorim Gymkhana.
Curtorim Gymkhana were reduced to 10-man from the 51st minute onwards which further weakened their game. Taking advantage of the situation, Dempo rained goals through Ronil Azavedo in 59th minute, substitute Sairaj Chodankar in the 60th and 76th minutes; Shankar Gaunder in the 84th minute and substitutes Viraj Naik in the 86th minute and Rinjoy Fernandes in the dying minutes.
Speaking to Herald, Dempo coach Marcelino Pereira expressed happiness about his team performance and agreed that their defence played a stellar role.
Curtorim Gymkhana coach Alex Dias said that they missed many sitters as they were well tackled by the rival defence and reducing the team to 10-man affected the game plan.
