Goa Pro League: Dempo SC Fight Back to Hold Sporting Clube 1-1 at Duler Stadium

MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club came from a goal down to hold Sporting Clube de Goa to a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.
After a barren first session, Sporting Clube surged ahead in the 57th minute through Doyal Alves only to find Dempo SC’s U-21 Asmon Viegas level terms.
After Friday’s drawn encounter, both teams have five points each from three GPL matches.
Both the teams having played their Charity Match few weeks back knew each other’s style of game thus play was restricted to the midfield.
In the entire first session, Sporting Clube did not have one good attempt at the rival goal.
At the other end, Dempo SC had two attempts at the rival goal but Vinay Harji floater into the goal area was paired to safety by Sporting Clube’s custodian Abhimanyu Singh.
Minutes later, Dempo SC’s striker Shubham Rawat moved dangerously inside the 18-yard box from the left flank and sent a cut back pass to Salgeo Dias, who fumbled in front of the goal to find the defender clear the ball.
Just five minutes into the second session and Dempo SC’s skipper Arnold Oliveira beautiful sent a through pass to overlapping Shubham Rawat who was a fraction late to connect the ball into the unguarded goal.
Sporting Clube coach Francisco Vaz brought two substitution Doyal Alves and Rohan Rodrigues and it paid dividend.
In the 57th minute, Sporting Clube’s right back Myron Fernandes found substitute Doyal Alves inside the 6-yard box whose first touch materialised into a goal, 1-0.
Dempo SC coach Remus Gomes brought some fresh legs, where in the 63rd minute skipper Ronaldo Oliveira squared the ball to well-positioned U-21 Asmon Viegas who stabbed the ball into the goal, 1-1.
