VASCO: Dempo Sports Club intend to carry on the winning momentum against group leaders Minerva Academy as they host the Chandigarh team in the Second Division I-League match at Tilak Maidan, here, on Sunday.
The kick-off is at 4 p.m.
In the earlier encounter in Chandigarh, Minerva Academy edged Dempo SC 1-0. However, Dempo SC coach Mauricio Afonso looks to avenge the defeat with a comprehensive win in front of the home fans.
“It’s an important match for us. Minerva are currently leading the group with 13 points, but we will play for three points for our fans,” stated Dempo SC coach, Maurice Afonso.
Dempo SC, who beat Kenkre FC 4-0 in the Second Division I-League and then Guardian Angel SC 1-0 in the Goa Pro-League, have shown great improvement and confidence since the return of ISL players back in the team.
“Though Romeo Fernandes and Mandar Rao Dessai have joined the team, they won’t be available for selection as the duo are nursing injuries, which they picked up during the ISL,” informed Afonso.
Dempo SC will also miss Shaikh Jewel Raja in the midfield as the former has been handed a two match ban by AIFF for his cruel tackle on Yash against Kenkre FC.
There is good news too, Germanpreet Singh has recovered and participated in the training session on Saturday and is likely to fill the void.
Mauricio will bank heavily on his strike force for goals –Beevan D’Mello and Milagres Gonsalves, who are currently enjoying rich form in front of the goal, scoring five goals among their names in two matches.
At the other end, Minerva coach Surinder Singh also looks to extend their unbeaten run in the league.
“Dempo is a strong team. And it’s always difficult to play in Goa. Though we have few injury concerns. I believe the available team will deliver the result,” said Singh.
Minerva Academy playing their debut season in the Second Division I-League have been the first team to qualify for the next round.
“Though we have made it to the next round. I will still play my strong team against the five-times national champions. Each match is important for us and our players,” said Singh.
