After his boys went down to Lajong 1-0 in the 17-round encounter of I-League here today, Pune FC coach Derrick Pereira came down heavily on his opponents saying the home side exhibited an “unprofessional” approach.
“Many incidents that happened during the game were unprofessional. The opponents wasted time by falling down unnecessarily and pretending to be injured,” Pereira said at the joint press conference of the coaches after the match.
Lajong’s Stanley Rosario immediately dismissed the allegation and said Pereira “should not speak like this at a press conference”.
“A losing coach always complains,” Rosario said as the press conference which witnessed a spar between the two coaches.
Pereira claimed that at one point of time when the Lajong custodian fell down, Stanley asked the team physio to walk to him instead of jogging to delay the match.”We lost, I accept. But these things should not be done in football. It is also bad for players,” he said.
“How can I and the substitutes sitting at the dug-out see if a player in the field is injured or not,” Stanley said.
Criticising referee Minangshu Bhattacherjee for being “unprofessional”, the Pune coach alleged that in international matches, referees won’t allow such delays when a player is faking.”
