MARGAO A superb brace by Derrick Pereira helped Vasco Veterans record a fluent 3-1 win over Ponda Veterans to enter the quarter-final of all-Goa 8-a-side Veterans football tournament organized by Chinchinim Veterans at Sucaldem ground, Chinchinim on Friday. The teams were tied 1-1 at lemon break.
Vasco Veterans were well served by former international, national players and who dominated the game right from the word go. Former internationals Derrick Pereira and Mariano Dias were rock solid at the back.
Vasco Veterans went into the lead in the 10th minute when striker Vishant Pednekar picked up the ball from Derrick Pereira.
Stung by that setback, Ponda Veterans intensified their attacks and equalized in the 27th minute when Brian Diniz bulge the net to put his team on equal terms.
Post resumption, Vasco Veterans upped the ante and quickly went ahead when Derrick Pereira slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot to give his team a 2-1 cushion.
Spurred by the lead, Vasco Veterans swarmed all over the rival territory and kept their opponents on the back foot for major period of the game.
Derrick Pereira added to Ponda Veterans injury scoring brace late in the second half to seal the match in the favour of Vasco.
