MAYEM: The birthday of hockey champion Major Dhyanchand was celebrated at Govind Gunaji High School, Sarvan-Bicholim recently.
Ex-student, Ram Dhawaskar garlanded the image of Dhyanchand in the presence of hockey players from different parts of State, who attended the function.
Ram Dhawaskar was felicitated for his efforts in hockey at National level and has bagged “Topper of the year” for the year 2012-13 for his marvelous achievement in hockey. He is also a National hockey and will participate in the forthcoming Lusofonia Games.
On the occasion, Deepa Fondekar won the prize in targeting the ball while Ramesh Amonkar emerged victorious in the king of circle spots.
Red Group emerged champions in junior and senior hockey games while Std VI class won the prize in the passing the ball contest. Nikhil Gad and Balkrishna Sawant were awarded best hockey sports player.
