Don Bosco High School Under-16, Panjim, became the first Goan school team to reach the finals of a national inter-school football tournament, which unfortunately saw them losing 0-1 to a Punjab school in Punjab last month.
Don Bosco, captained by Chukwudi Chukwuma made it to the finals, beating Maharashtra 2-0. Earlier, in the group league matches, Don Bosco beat Haryana 1-0, drew with Kerala 1-1 and trounced Bihar 7-1 to top the group.
At the state level, Don Bosco beat St Joseph High School, Calangute in the district finals and Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal 2-1 in the state finals. Chukwudi scored in all 10 goals.
The team alongwith the parents of the players was felicitated today by Don Bosco management, who felt that the boys had done the school and the state proud with their superlative showing, thus creating history. Fr Edwin Barracho, Principal, said that the team had shown consistent performance throughout and that the parents and all teachers had been always providing full backing. He singled out coach Francis Raposo for putting extra work outside the normal school hours.
