MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda edged past Navelim Villagers Union 6-5 via the tie-breaker to enter the final of the Catao cup 8-a-side All-Goa inter-village football tournament, organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at church ground, Chinchinim, on Saturday.
In the first half, the score remained goalless.
Don Bosco Oratory established easy control in the opening stages of the match as Francis Andrade forced the Navelim custodian to make an important block. The assist was provided by Cliff Barretto.
There after, Navelim Villagers Union missed to score as Nevin Pereira’s header missed the target off an assist by Joseph Dias. The teams were cautious and the play was mostly confined to the midfield.
Crossing over, Navelim Villagers Union broke the deadlock in the 45th minute through Alister Gomes’ power-packed strike off an assist by Sukdev Arwade.
Don Bosco took time to regroup and in the 47th minute Charlton Pereira made a daunting run in the rival territory but the move was foiled by the defence of Navelim Villagers Union.
Navelim Villagers Union stepped up their game and scored their second through Sukdev Arwade in the 50th minute after receiving a through ball from Jaison Pereira.
Six minutes later, Don Bosco Oratory restored parity as Roque Borges netted off an assist by Cliff.
In the tie-breaker, Don Bosco Oratory scored through Francis Andrade, Cliff Barretto, Charlton Pereira and Clifton Barretto while Navelim Villagers netted through Nevin Pereira, Jaison Pereira and Joseph Dias.
