Double joy for Mallikarjun College

PANJIM: Mallikarjun College, Canacona won a rare double crown in the Men’s and Women’s Inter-Collegiate Cross Country Championships, organized by Goa University, recently.

The race was held along the Bambolim, Taleigao Plateau and Dona Paula route. Mallikarjun finished with 60 points in the men’s section and 28 points in the Women’s section.
Govt. College, Quepem claimed the second position with 110 points and Rosary College, Navelim finished third with 112 points in the Men’s section.
Whereas, CES College, Cuncolim came second with 45 points and Govt. College, Quepem finished third with 56 points in the Women’s section.
Sandesh Gaonkar of Mallikarjun College finished first in the Men’s section completing the 12.5 km race in 42.20 minutes. Sunil Gaonkar (Mallikarjun College) came second and Manjunath Dodamani (Govt. College, Quepem) finished third.
In the Women’s race, Danita Diniz of Carmel College, Nuvem came first in the five km race with a timing of 21.04 minutes. Prashila Deikar (CES College, Cuncolim) finished second and Archana Velip (Mallikarjun College, Canacona) finished third. In all, 202 men and 114 women participated in the race.
Dr Sanjeev Ghadi, Director of Students Welfare at Goa University was the chief guest for the presentation ceremony. Earlier, Dr Rajan Mathew from Govt. College, Quepem flagged off the race.
