Fatorda clinch Veterans title

FATORDA: Fatorda Veterans beat Bardez Veterans 4-3 via tie-breaker in the final of the 1st all-Goa Fatorda Veterans football and lifted the Fatorda Veterans trophy, played at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda, on Sunday.

FATORDA: Fatorda Veterans beat Bardez Veterans 4-3 via tie-breaker in the final of the 1st all-Goa Fatorda Veterans football and lifted the Fatorda Veterans trophy, played at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda, on Sunday. 
Fatorda Veterans in the 3rd minute through striker Francis Andrade should have netted the first goal of the match but the latter’s shot was punched away to safety by Bardez keeper Mario Aquiar. 
In the 17th minute, Bardez player Pascoal Pereira’s power-drive shot was saved by the Fatorda keeper Camilo Barreto in the 17th minute. 
As the match progressed in the second half, substitute Mahesh Kambli shot wide in the 48th minute. 
With two minutes left for the final whistle, Bardez midfielder Manuel Moraes after dribbled past a couple of Fatorda defenders and shot but his strike was saved by keeper Mario as the both teams failed to find a goal in regulation time. 
In the resultant tie-breaker, Fatorda Veterans converted through Francis Andrade, Aldrin Lobo, Aldrin e Lobo and Hanuman Pednekar while Pascoal Pereira, Narendra Gaad and Gavin Araujo netted for Bardez Veterans.
The winners were awarded Rs. 30,000 while the runners-up received Rs. 20,000 plus trophies
The following individual prizes were awarded: best striker of the final: Jose Carvalho (Fatorda Veterans), best goalkeeper of the final: Mario Aguiar (Bardez veterans), best midfielder: Narendra Gaad (Bardez veterans), best defender of the final: Atul Naik (Bardez Veterans), best half: Remy Barretto (Fatorda veterans).
Vijai Sardessai, Minister for TCP was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners up in the presence of Fr. Kinley D’Cruz of Don Bosco, Fatorda and other dignitaries.
