DULER: Football Club of Bardez scored an emphatic 5-0 win over Sesa Footbal Academy – juniors in the Group C cluster of the Goa Police Cup, organized by Goa Police Sports Cell in association with Vasco Sports Club and GFA, at Duler Stadium, on Wednesday.
FC Bardez after holding the golden eagles now having defeated Sesa FA –juniors has topped the group however the result of the match between Dempo SC and Sesa FA will determine their qualification in the quarter-finals.
At haltime the winners led by a 1-0 margin.
In the opening minutes of match itself the Bardez outfit were awarded a free kick at the edge of the penalty area when Myron Mendes was brought down by Sesa’s Dhiraj Chawan. However Jessel Carneiro failed to direct his kick into the goal.
Minutes into the match, Sesa custodian Runnal Gaunkar came with a superb diving save to push away Jessel Carneiro’s 25-yard freekick.
After a series of failed opportunities, FC Bardez took the lead in the 29th minute of play when Alesh Sawant curled his corner kick towards Rowilson Rodrigues, who in turn headed it to Lestan Afonso who made no mistake to fire the ball into the nets. In the 40th minute of play Richard Costa saw his powerful low grounder go inches past the Sesa target.
Minutes before the breather, Sesa FA’s keeper Runnal Gaunkar came up with a timely save to deny Jessel Carneiro from further inflating the lead.
Crossing over, Daniel Lobo who came in as a substitute for Sesa, created the first real scoring opportunity for his side.
After he got hold of the ball, he charged into the Bardez territory and unleashed a blistering shot which was pushed away by the keeper.
At the other end, FC Bardez doubled their lead when Alesh Sawant beautifully connected Jessel Carneiro’s cross to the far end of the Sesa nets, to make it 2-0.
Minutes later Rowilson Borges put his side up by a 3-0 margin when he nodded in Jessel corner into the Sesa goal.
FC Bardez hunger for goal did not cease there as they went on to fire in two more goals through Jessel Carneiro and skipper Peter Carvalho to round off the score tally to 5-0.
