MARGAO: Hosts A.A.De Majorda got the better of Cuncolim Union 2-1 to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Fr Basilo Andrade memorial inter-village football tournament organized by A.A.De Majorda, at Musson ground, Majorda, Tuesday. Majorda led 2-0 at the break.
Majorda mounted sustained attacks and drew first blood in the 20th minute when striker Flyod Fernandes received the pass from his colleague to beat his markers and placed the ball to the far corner of the net.
Continuing with their disciplined showing, A.A. De Majorda doubled the lead when again Flyod punished the rival goalkeeper with adroit placement
At the other hand, a lot was expected from Cuncolim after they were trailing 0-2 but they failed to function as a cohesive unit and looked disjointed.
After the break, Cuncolim showed some fight back and created couple of forays into the rival territory and their efforts bore the fruits when Bestern Colaco reduced the margin in the 45th minute.
Cuncolim tried their best to neutralize the lead but could not break down the resilient defence which protected the slender lead.
