PANJIM: Offended by North SP Priyanka Kashyap’s statement on legalizing prostitution in the State, BJP’s St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh has written to Deputy Inspector General of Goa Police Dr O P Mishra asking to instruct the officer to focus on curbing crimes rather than giving such statements.
“…Issue instructions to your officers not to indulge in giving such statement. Better tell Priyanka to be more vigilant in curbing crimes than to create confusion in the minds of the people,” Wagh said.
The IPS officer raked up controversy by raising her pitch for legalizing prostitution, as her “personal opinion” during a rotary club function last week. The legislator has termed her statement as highly offensive.
“We are working to root out prostitution. We are offended by her statement. She needs to be admonished in strong words about such irresponsible utterances,” he said.
 responding to a question.
Wagh, has further said in the letter, “Goa has already earned a bad name thanks to the casinos and activities related to casinos. A number of prostitution rackets have been busted in the past few months lowering Goa’s image in the eyes of the public. The need of the hour is to crush the menace of prostitution, let alone legalizing it. Legalization of prostitution will finally end up in making Goa a heaven for sex craving maniacs.”
