In the first half, Jagdesh Nalkar scored with a long ranger for Bethany Convent in the sixth minute while Malchoir Silva found the ball at the back for Fr Agnel in the 12th minute.
In the second half, Bethany Coneven’t Hansel Oliveira was unlucky as his effort hit the upright and the ball fell back in play.
At the other end, Fr Agnel’s Sairon missed to head in from close range.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Clearence Fernandes, Placido Colaco, Malchoir Silva, Mohit Kumar and Sairon scored for Fr Agnel while Aryan Carvalho, Vivaldy Travasso and Hansel Oliveira converted for Bethany Convent.
The winners received Rs15,000 and a trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 10,000 and a trophy.
Kishor Padhya of Fr Agnel received the Best goalkeeper award while Clearence Fernandes of Fr.Agnel received the Best defender award.
Former international footballer, Nicholas Pereira was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignitaries.
Gavin Araujo, Coaching Development Director of FC Goa said, “The club encourages the schools under their training program to participate and get exposure in these types of tournaments in the state. This allows them to grow as a team as they expose themselves to a wider level of competition. Their participation also provides the club with a chance to reflect on the development the center is making and if our program has provided them with effective development.”
Praising the development of the boys at their center, Katz Naidoo, Technical Director of FC Goa’s Grassroots Program said, “It is not a surprise that an FC Goa Development Center team lifted the Baptist Memorial Trophy. Congratulations to the coach who has worked hard with the team while also allowing the boys to play with the freedom which we highly encourage. I am pleased that within the FC Goa Development family the game method is applied and this is evident of the performance of these youngsters. Winning is a bonus but quality of performance is more important at this level.”
