PILAR: Fr. Agnel High School and Higher Secondary School, Pilar emerged champions in the 8th All Goa Meccabeus Rodrigues Memorial U-14 inter-school and U-17 inter-higher secondary football tournament organised by Fr. Agnel Youth Centre Pilar, at Fr Agnel school ground, Pilar, recently.
In the U-14 category Fr. Agnel High School, Pilar defeated Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim in the final via the tie-breaker after both the schools failed to score any goals during normal time. Asmon Viegas of Fr. Agnel High School was the hero for the Pilar side as he managed to save from the spot kicks to ensure victory for his team.
In the U- 17 category, Fr. Agnel Higher Secondary school beat Fr. Agnel Multipurpose HSS via the tie-breaker.
In an exciting match both the teams were at their attacking best as they kept on raiding the opponents goal but the defence of both the teams thwarted the attacks to keep the match goalless. In the resultant tie-breaker, Fr. Agnel HSS proved to be the better shooters.
Mr. Francisco Silveira, MLA of St. Andre constituency was the chief guest , Adil Khan , FC Pune city player of the ISL was the guest of honour along with Gabriel Fernandes (FC Pune city), Xavier Gracias (Sarpanch of Agassaim), Maria Mendes (Sarpanch of Goa Velha) and other dignitaries.
