RAIA: Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club triumphed over Sao Jose de Areal with a 3-2 victory, earning their place in the semi-finals of the 49th Chandor Seamen football tournament, held at Chandor grounds, on Wednesday. Both teams played with urgency, thrilling a crowd of over 2,000 spectators with a well-balanced and competitive match.

The game began with both sides searching for an early breakthrough. Sao Jose de Areal’s Darryl Costa came close in the 12th minute, but his shot went wide. Fr Agnelo’s Ashwan from Paroda tested the Areal goalkeeper in the 17th minute and when the keeper fumbled, Omkar Gaonkar quickly capitalised, scoring the opening goal. Just five minutes later, Nelson Fernandes doubled Fr Agnelo’s lead, converting a swift pass from a teammate.

Sao Jose de Areal fought back, earning a penalty from a handball, which Darryl Costa successfully converted, making it 2-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Fr Agnelo extended their lead further when Melson Fernandes scored his second goal in the 37th minute. Despite Areal’s Raymond narrowing the gap with a powerful shot that found the back of the net, the final score remained 3-2 in favour of Fr Agnelo.
