Agnelo D’Souza’s heroics under the bar enabled Friends XI, Vaddem to get the better of Nerul Sports Club 3-2 via the tie-breaker and moved into the semi-finals after the teams played out a goal-less draw in Nagoa-Arpora Panchayat Cup inter-village soccer organised by Arpora Sporting Club at Salt Lake ground, Arpora on Thursday.
The teams started on a positive note and missed a couple of scoring opportunities. However, it was Friends goalkeeper Agnelo who turned out to be the saviour for his team saving a couple of scoring opportunities off Abhijit and Clyde. In a one-to-one situation in the first half, Clyde Dias attempt was brilliantly saved by the rival goalkeeper. The second half also failed to produce any goals.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Sequeira, Shane and Agnelo converted for Friends while Avinash and Sarvesh were on target for Nerul. Friends goalkeeper Agnelo saved two spot kicks.
