G Angel, DB Farm enter finals

Guardian Angel Higher Secondary, Curchorem will meet Don Bosco Farm High School, Sulcorna in the final of Quepem Taluka Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Tilamol ground on Saturday at 4 p.m.
In the first semi-final, Don Bosco beat Damodar Higher Secondary, Guddi-Paroda 5-4 via the tie-breaker. The teams were locked in a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.
Damodar with a couple of promising players, were made to toil hard by the youngsters of Don Bosco with midfielder Joldem Gomes in an impressive role. The defenders of both the teams played their part well.
After the break, Damodar’s Joalan D’Costa try hit the upright and went out. Damodar were unlucky again when Rohan Kambli’s rasping drive kissed the crossbar.
In the penalty shoot out, Karthik Fernandes, Calisto Gomes, Ranjit Gaonkar and Francis Travasso were on target for Don Bosco while Joalan D’Costa, Vicky Naik and Denzil Fernandes converted for Damodar.
In the other semi-final, Guardian Angel trounced Immaculate Conception High School, Paroda 4-0. Guardian Angel were leading 3-0 at half time.
The match started with Guardian Angel looking hungrier as they made attacking forays and enjoyed total domination.
Guardian Angel went into the lead when Vishal Rodrigues punished the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement.
Guardian Angel mounted pressure and again Vishal Rodrigues struck the second time to complete his brace.
After taking a 2-0 cushion, Guardian Angel played at leisurely pace and never allowed their opponents to struck rhythm.
Immaculate Conception came close to reducing the margin but Guardian Angel goalkeeper Neville came to his side’s rescue thwarting a fierce shot from Savio Olveira.
Vishal Rodrigues rounded off the tally.
