RAIA: The Goa Badminton Association organised a highly interactive meeting involving parents of the State-ranked badminton players and coaches at the indoor stadium, Campal, Panjim, recently.
During the meeting, parents were briefed about the association’s upcoming activities, tournament protocols, selection procedures, upgradation programmes, academy plans, and other initiatives.
The forum also provided an opportunity for parents to voice their suggestions and concerns.
Many expressed their satisfaction with the initiative and suggested improvements such as enhancing infrastructure and repair works at the stadiums, including parents in the consultative processes, formulating a concrete policy regarding the participation of non-Goan players, and seeking exemptions from schools during tournaments and camps.
Goa Badminton Association President Manoj Patil emphasised on his commitment to involving parents, coaches and other stakeholders in the consultative process to elevate badminton’s status in the State.
“We are also looking at generating corporate social responsibility (CSR) support to fund grassroots training and help our ranked players achieve national level excellence. The meeting marks a significant step towards a collaborative approach, and we will have regular meetings like these,” said Patil.
Secretary Praveen Shenoy presented the association’s vision, which includes the imminent launch of the Goa Badminton Center of Excellence, upskill training and development programmes for players and coaches, and exchange programmes with players from other academies and States.
Other key attendees included EC member and coach Navneet Nasnodkar, Selection Committee Chairperson Anushka Kuvelkar, EC member Aniket Shenai, and Tournament Committee Convenor Wilfred Fernandes, who provided inputs and discussed various strategies to further the sport’s development in Goa.
