PANJIM: The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) signed a nine-year Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Dharbandora Panchayat at GCA ground, in Porvorim, on Tuesday.
This would pave way for youngsters from the village and surrounding areas of Ponda and Sanvordem to make the best use of cricket facilities.
The nine year MOU was signed by Dharbandora Panchayat Sarpanch Swati Gawas and GCA secretary Vipul Phadke in the presence of GCA Treasurer Paresh Phadte, Harish Shinde, Sudesh Narvekar and Dharbandora Panch Members Dattaraj Gawas and Yeshwant Bandodkar.
“GCA will be building 2 turf pitches on the main ground and 2 cement pitches for the practice wickets. GCA will be entirely responsible for maintaining the ground and will also provide qualified coaching staff for the players of Dharbandora and surrounding areas. This is the first step in a long journey to take this beautiful game to every village and rural areas of Goa. I congratulate the Dharbandora Panchayat as well as everyone who have helped us in procuring this ground and arrangement of agreement between two parties,” stated Vipul Phadke.
“I also assured that for all the 9 years this ground will be maintained in top conditions and this ground will not be a pride only for the Dharbandora Panchayat but also for the Goa Cricket Association,” Phadke said.
“Grass roots can be developed at the village level and by signing this MOU we are showing our intent of reaching to the grass roots. I thank the members of the Dharbandora VP for giving us the permission and promise the best from GCA,” stated GCA president Suraj Lotlikar.
“We had a ground and no funds to maintain the ground. Our children needed a place to play and we thank GCA for coming forward not only to develop the ground but to maintain it and provide our children with all cricketing facilities. Today is a great day for not just the village of Dharbandora but all the youth of the village and surrounding areas,” said Dharbandora panch member Yeshwant Bandodokar.
