GCA welcomes SC verdict on Lodha report

PANJIM: Goa Cricket Association has welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on the implementation of the recommendations of the Lodha Commission within six months.

“It is a welcome verdict which will take cricket forward in the country,” Goa Cricket Association president Chetan Desai told Herald. He said the Lodha Commission report will streamline a lot of things.
He singled out the age limit of 70 on members as a welcome measure.
“At 65 to 70 the office bearers must retire and it must be applicable to all including State associations,” he said.
However, Desai was not very keen on two aspects in the report – that of non-inclusion of ministers and bureaucrats and the one state one vote rule.
“States like Maharashtra have two associations and for years they have been playing Ranji that way and it would be an injustice to them. Though I feel the rotation for voting is a good option,” he said.
On barring ministers and bureaucrats from Board of Control for Cricket in India, he said, “That is debatable as they contribute a lot to develop the game.”
About the three-year mandatory cooling off period for office bearers after completion of a term, he said, “This too is welcome and should be applicable to all. But I feel right now it is only in Board of Control for Cricket in India. Even if it is mandatory for State associations we welcome it.”
Asked about the intervention petition filed by former Ranji cricketer Hemant Angle against Goa Cricket Association in the Supreme Court, Desai said, “The Supreme Court has not taken any cognizance of the IA.”
