PANJIM: The stage is all set for Goa Chess Association 1st Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament 2018 which begins today (Oct 13, 2018) at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao.
The inaugural ceremony will be held at 1.30 p.m. and will be graced by chief guest Rajya Sabha Member and BJP President for Goa- Vinay Tendulkar along with Minister of Power (Goa) and GCA President Nilesh Cabral, AICF treasurer and Tournament Director Kishor Bandekar and other dignitaries.
“This is our first big ticket event and we are happy to host it. The stage is all set and now it the players’ time to give their best. We wish all the players a good luck and wish them a successful tournament,” said GCA President Nilesh Cabral.
“We have players from the age of 7 to 84 years of age participating in the eight day championship,” added Nilesh.
“The day has finally arrived to witness our dream project and Goa’s 1st ever Grandmaster Chess Tournament. Most of the players have arrived and we are all set to host this championship and definitely make it the best one,” explained the Tournament Director Kishor Bandekar.
The chess championship will be an eight day event wherein the B category will end on October 16 while the Category A and Category C will conclude on October 20.
“We would like to thank government of Goa, SAG, Goa tourism and all our sponsors and media for giving us a good coverage and for helping us in a big way to organise and host this international championship,” concluded Cabral.
