PANJIM: The Goa Football Association (GFA) condoled the death of Dr. Wilfred Mesquita, former Goa’s Sports Minister.
GFA President Churchill Alemao, in his condolence message, recalled that the present Tilak Maidan in Vasco, was due to Dr. Mesquita’s timely intervention. “He cleared the file to build the stadium or else it would have been a dumping ground for the construction material of a builder connected with Berth.No.10. It is only when he was appointed as Revenue and Sports Minister in the Cabinet that the file saw the light of the day and Vasco people were blessed with the football stadium”.
Churchill also pointed out that Dr. Mesquita was a great football fan, often attending the I-League matches at the stadium whenever Churchill Brothers Sports Club were playing.
“He was an ardent Churchill Brothers supporter,” he added.
