PANJIM: The Goa Football Association (GFA) amended its Constitution and reiterated its support to its President Churchill Alemao at the Special Extraordinary General Body Meeting held in Panjim, on Sunday.
The amended Statues which were circulated to all the affiliated clubs of GFA and incorporate most of the provisions of the Sports Code, were discussed among the 84 clubs which attended Sunday’s meeting and ultimately put to vote.
While 48 clubs voted for the new amended Statutes, only two clubs (Salcete FC and Dempo Juniors) opposed the same and as such, they were passed with a tally of 48-2. Whereas, 34 members voted neither.
Churchill Alemao, in his welcome address, piloting the amendments, explained the reason for the new Statutes, as whatever amendments the GFA had carried out in the past were not registered with the Registrar of Societies who had certified that the only registered Constitution was the one passed in 1977 and that the same original Constitution of 1977 was renewed upto 2020 by the previous committee and that such a certificate was issued as recently as 2018.
Lavinio Rebello, senior vice-president, Treasurer Dionisio Dias along with most of the members of the Executive Committee, hailed the move and highlighted that under Churchill the GFA was moving in the right direction.
“As such one is bound to see much higher and bigger progress in the next four years, even when the new committee took over only in November last, with its priority being the Goa Professional League, all divisions leagues, all the age-group tournaments and revival of women’s league, for which we seek the cooperation and collaboration of all the clubs, officials and fans, for after all it has to be team work,” they said.
