PANJIM : The Goa Football Association (GFA) executive committee reviewed all the official league competitions and expressed satisfaction for successfully completing most of the leagues.
The executive committee, under the chairmanship of GFA President Elvis Gomes, met on Friday at the GFA office in Panjim and also discussed on various issues such as fresh lease of life to Artificial Turf, Duler, hosting of final round of Santosh Trophy and other major issues.
“The GFA has given a fresh lease of life to the Artificial Turf at Duler for the first time since it was laid around five years ago after taking stock of the deterioration that had taken place by undertaking major repairs,” said the press release issued by GFA.
“The Hosting of the Final Round of the Senior National Championship for the Santosh Trophy was also discussed and it was decided to constitute a committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary of Goa. The tournament will be held at two venues namely Bambolim Stadium and Tilak Maidan, Vasco from March 12 wherein Goa will be vying for the Championship along with 9 other states which includes Bengal, Punjab, Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Services, Railways, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Mizoram.
It can be recalled that FC Goa had requested for a slot in the Goa Professional League for the coming season, but GFA deferred the decision for want of proper details regarding player prospects that will be made available.
During the committee meeting, the GFA also approved the request from Nicobar Athletic Association to participate in any U-16 tournament
“The GFA U-20 Taca Goa (Division One) League 2016-17 match between Dempo SC and Churchill Bros SC was declared as played without any points to either of the clubs since these clubs had refused to play the match after reporting at the venue and were also fined Rs 2,000 each for their conduct.
“The GFA U20 Taca Goa (Division One) League 2016-17 match between Dempo Sports Club and Vasco SC was declared in favour of Dempo SC with a three-goal margin since Vasco Sports Club had abandoned the field of play in the last eight minutes and refused to continue the match. Vasco Sports Club were further fined an amount of Rs 5,000 and so was their coach Eban Mesquita fined the same amount for his unsportsmanship conduct.
“The GFA Third Division League 2016-17 match between Dicarpale SC and Chandor Club was decided to be replayed since the suspended player, Sevaraj D’Costa had played despite his suspension and proper information was not conveyed to Chandor Club. However, the player has been suspended for this season as well as the ensuing season along with a monetary fine of Rs 5,000.
“The GFA Second Division League (llhas Zone) 2016-17 match between Santo Estevam SC and Portais SC was declared in favour of Portais Sporting Club with a three-goal margin since Santo Estevam SC had refused to continue the match. Santo Estevam SC were further fined an amount of Rs 5,000 for their unsportsmanship conduct.
“The GFA also suspended Caitano Viegas who had played inter-village match despite his earlier suspension in the Goa Professional League for Churchill Bros fC. The player has been suspended for this season as well as the ensuing season along with a monetary fine of Rs 5,000.
“The GFA deliberated on the First Division League and decided to relegate one team from the draw of the First Division League and subsequently promote two teams from the Second Division League from the ensuing season. The GFA took serious note of the sudden withdrawal from the First Division League by Panchwadi United Sports Club and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the club.” read the press release.
