PANJIM: The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC), in it’s endeavour to develop all-round football, has always kept community development in it’s priority areas and ‘YUVA’ an NGO (Non government Organization) of enthusiastic youthful professionals from Panjim whilst organising their third free football summer camp for children below 14 years in association with GFDC, at NGPDA ground, near Hedgewar HS, Mala, here, on Sunday.
In association with the Bio-Diversity board, YUVA took up the task of projecting the environment issue of ‘Save the Frog’.
MLA of Panjim and chairman of EDC Siddharth Kuncolienkar inaugurated the camp in the presence of Shubham Chodankar (Mayor of Corporation of City of Panjim), Dr Nitin Sawant (Member Secretary- Biodiversity Board), Dr Rufino Monteiro, (chairman of GFDC), Shantaram Naik, Vilas Satarkar and Ashok Patil.
Raghuvir Mahale (vice-president of YUVA) welcomed.
Shubham Chodankar appreciated the efforts put in by YUVA to organize such a camp for kids to encourage talent in them and extended his support for such activities in society. Posters on ‘Save the Frog’ were released by the Panjim Mayor.
Dr Rufino, who is also the president of YUVA stressed on improving the present status of football in Goa and India urged the youngsters to develop their talent through the summer camp. He also stressed the value of frogs in the environment.
Chief guest MLA Sidharth unveiled the mascot of the camp — Bebo and explained the importance of frogs in cities and villages. He also urged YUVA to continue with such camps for motivating youth towards sports and outdoor related activities. The inaugural was followed by enrolment of over 50 participants. The camp will be held daily (except Sundays) till May 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
