MAPUSA: Goa’s campaign at the Yonex Sunrise West Zone Inter State Badminton championships 2019 ended after its teams went down to Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra in the Junior and Senior events, at Multipurpose Stadium, Peddem.
The Goa team lost to Chhattisgarh in the senior team quarter-finals while the Junior team went down fighting to Maharashtra in the semi-finals.
Though both teams lost 3-0, Goa shuttlers stretched their opponents to three close sets in all matches, barring the men’s singles.
In the semi-finals, Maharashtra downed hosts Goa while Gujarat outplayed Madhya Pradesh, both with identical 3-0 margins.
In the senior mixed team event, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh have made it into the last four.
Earlier, the championships were inaugurated by Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Rajesh Patnekar in the presence of Digambar Kamat, Leader of the Opposition, Mayur Parikh (BAI Observer), and GBA officials Narahar Thakur (President) and Sarfraz Sheikh (Treasurer).
