Goa clinch third bronze

The team consisted of Anura, Anushka, Pranjal and Anjana; Goa went down to eventual gold medallists Telangana 2-0 in the semi-final

PANJIM: Goa women’s badminton team of Anura Prabhu Desai, Anushka Kuvelkar, Pranjal Chimulkar and Anjana Kumari clinched the third bronze medal for the State, at the 35th National Games, in Kerala, on Monday.
Goa now has three bronze and one silver medal.
In the quarter-final, Goa beat West Bengal 2-0. Anura Prabhu Desai beat Anuriya Das 20-22, 21-11, 21-13 and teamed up with Anushka Kuvelkar to get the better of Sheshadri Sanyal and Rupsa Ghosh 21-12, 21-10.
However, Goa went down to eventual gold medallists Telangana 2-0, in the semi-final. Rituparna Das beat Anura Prabhu Desai 21-17, 12-21, 21-5.
Sikki Reddy Nelakurthi and Meghana Jakkampudi beat Anura Prabhu Desai and Anushka Kuvelkar 21-9, 21-16.
There was no play-off for the bronze medal tie and both, Goa and Maharashtra secured the bronze medal.
In the final, on Tuesday, Telangana went on to defeat the hosts Kerala 2-0.
However, Kerala managed to clinch the gold medal in the men’s team final by getting the better of Haryana 3-2.
