National sailing championship
PANJIM (HSD) -The six-day laser 25th national sailing championships will be held from Aprilo 27 to May 2 in Goa under the aegis of Laser Class Association of India, whose President is Lieutenant General I J Singh, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME). He is also the chairman, Yachting Association of India’s National (Asian Games and Olympic) classes committee. He will be assisted by Major General A V Subramanian, VSM, vice-president and other office-bearers. The event is being hosted by Goa Yachting Association (GYA), under Cesar Menezes, president GYA with the organizing secretary being Hakim Sabir. The associate sponsor for the event is ‘Wave View Sports and Media.’
First held in 1986, the laser class is one of the most popular and organized yachting classes globally with large number of boats racing in all parts of the world and their numbers continue to grow fast.
Kayaking at Dona Paula
PANJIM (HSD) — Goa Kayaking will conduct its 8th introduction to kayaking and training programme 2010 for children above 9 and adults with a basic knowledge of swimming at Vainguinim beach, Dona Paula from May 7-10 and May 14-17. Equipment, flotation devices, kayaks, paddles along with sessions of expert instruction and practice will be provided. The programmes are being conducted in association with Goa Tourism, with back up of safety services, life guards and related equipment, according to the organisers. Ball badminton trials
PANJIM (HSD) – The selection trials for selecting the Goa ball badminton men and women teams will be held on April 27 at Porvorim ground, near Maruti temple, from 4 to 5 p.m. to select the State teams to participate in 55th National Ball Badminton Championship to be held in Koornul, Andhra Pradesh in the first week of May. Korfball selection trials
PANJIM (HSD) – The selection trials for Goa korfball team will be held on April 27 at Porvorim ground, near Maruti temple, at 4 p.m. to select the team to participate in the 6th West Zone Championship to be held in Ahmedabad in the first week of May. Those interested may contact Ashok Salgaocar, general secretary, Goa Korfball Association.
Dawn-to-dusk basketball tourney
PANJIM (HSD) – The dawn-to-dusk basketball tournament organised by Regina Mundi Basketball Association will be held on April 25 at Regina Mundi School, Chicalim from 8 a.m. In all, 16 teams will participate. The winners and runners-up will receive prizes.
Football camp at Assolna
PANJIM (HSD) — The closing ceremony of summer football camp organised by Lions Club of AVC will be held on April 25 at SAG ground, Assolna at 4.30 p.m.
In all, 110 boys and girls of AVC schools are participating.
Fr Lucio Dias will be the chief guest while Joaquim Pereira, Sarpanch, Assolna VP will be the guest of honour.
An exhibition match between camp selection and Sirlim U-16 will be held. Former football coaches and other football personalities will also be felicitated.
Football scholarship programme
MAPUSA (HR) – The men’s football scholarship programme conducted by Chowgule College in collaboration with Vasco Sports Club to select players in the age group of U-18 and U-20 will be held on April 26 to May 8 at Chowgule College, Margao, from 8.30 to 10.30 a.m and 4.30 to 6.30 p.m. Eligibility: U-18 – those born on or after 1.1.1993, while U-20 – those born on or after 1.1.1991. Taca Goa U-20 kicks off today
PANJIM (HSD) — The 2nd Division Taca Goa U-20 kicks off on April 25, at Curtorim Santa Cruz and Taleigao ground, at 4.15 p.m.
Merces Club, Macasana Welfare Club, Paradise Club, Youth Sports Club, Colvale, Aivao United Youth Club, Sarzora Sports Club, will be participating.
Super chess housie at Dona Paula
PANJIM (HSD) – The Super Chess Housie VI Chess Tournament organised by Chess Activity Centre in association with The International Centre Goa, will be held on May 1 and 2 at The International Centre Goa, Dona Paula. The tournament will be played in three age group categories, those born in 2000 or after, those born between 1994 and 1999 and those born between 1986 and 1993. Only 40 participants in each category will be accepted. The tournament will be played on Swiss League System. In super chess housie, anyone who predicts the first five positions in advance will receive a prize after purchasing a housie. The last date for entries is April 29. IPCL in September
PANJIM (HSD) – The Indian Premier Corporate League T20 selection trials will be held soon in which selection of players will be based on trials from all affiliated units of ITCF India.
