Goa down Uttarakhand, keep hopes alive.

Goa U-19 comfortably defeated Uttarakhand 2-0 in Dr B.C. Roy Trophy U-19 Junior Nationals quarter-final group stage at Salt Lake stadium, Kolkata on Saturday. Goa led by a solitary goal at the lemon break.
Goa achieved the much needed victory to keep their hopes of a semi-final place alive.
Defender Meldon D’Silva received his second yellow card of the tournament and will miss the final group match on Monday for Goa.
Goa took the lead in the 8th minute when Brandon Fernandes curled a wonderful free kick over the Uttarakhand wall and into the net.
Both teams continued to apply pressure down the wings early in the second half but could not add to the score line.
Goa secured the three points 10 minutes from time, when Pandhari Chopdekar latched on to Brandon’s low driven free kick which left the opposition stunned, and punted home from close range.
Speaking to Herald, Goa U-19 coach Lino Pereira congratulated the boys on their performance. “We got the early goal but did not sit on it. The boys grew from strength to strength after the goal.”
In the other group match, Karnataka defeated Meghalaya 2-1.
