Goa in National U-19 schools finals

PANJIM, SEPT 24 Goa marched into the finals of National inter-school under-19 football tournament edging past UP via the tie-breaker 4-2 at Jammu on Friday. Goa goalkeeper Marshall Fernandes effected two saves in the penalty shoot out session to take Goa into the finals. Rakesh Kumar, Mazar Ali, Newton D'Sousa, Agnelo Fernandes scored.

Goa marched into the finals of National inter-school under-19 football tournament edging past UP via the tie-breaker 4-2 at Jammu on Friday.
Goa goalkeeper Marshall Fernandes effected two saves in the penalty shoot out session to take Goa into the finals. Rakesh Kumar, Mazar Ali, Newton D’Sousa, Agnelo Fernandes scored.
It was also goalkeeper Marshall who saved Goa in the regular period as he executed an out-of-the blue save stopping a hot blooded 20-yard try.
The team has M M Muthawali and Baptist Fernandes as coaches with Braz Rodrigues being the manager.
Goa will play Chanduigarh in the finals tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, Dr Susana de Sousa, DSYA director, congratulated the boys and the officials accompanying the team for their excellent display. “Goa has the potential to win the National title. They need to go an extra mile tomorrow so that Goa get the gold,” she added.
Speaking from Jammu, Muthawali, Baptist and Braz told Herald that the boys were all set to give their best showing and that they will do their utmost to come out trumps. “Let’s hope for the best,” they summed up.
