Goa women clinch runners-up spot

PANJIM: Goa men emerged winners while Goa women emerged runners-up in the men’s and women’s category respectively in 3rd West Zone tennis ball cricket championships organized by Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association in collaboration with SAG at Bal Bharati Vidhya Mandir School ground, Ribandar.
In the men’s finals, Goa defeated Rajasthan. Goa elected to bat and scored 48 runs in eight overs. Damodar Shirodkar scored 25 runs, Giridhar and Avanish scored four runs each while Laxman scored six runs. In reply, Rajasthan were bundled out for 24 in 5.1 overs. Sushant and Chandan took two wickets each.
In the women’s final, Goa lost to Rajasthan in the super-over after the match ended in a tie. Electing to bat, Goa scored 31/5 in the allotted eight overs with Pranita Korgaokar scoring 16 runs and Ankita Zambaulikar scoring 7 runs. In reply, Rajasthan scored 31/7. In the super-over, Rajasthan scored 10 runs in one over but Goa could only score seven.
Suchita Sawant Desai, principal of Bal Bharati Vidhya Mandir gave away the prizes in the in presence of Mansoor Beig, Zogusso Naik, Ropesh V Naik, Ankush Paliekar, Gynanvvel, Teja and other dignitaries.
