RAIA: Goa Police edged past Corps of Signals 1-0, in a group B match of the Goa Police Cup, organized by Goa Police Sports Cell in association with Vasco Sports Club and GFA at Village panchayat ground, Raia, on Wednesday.
Both the teams displayed an attacking brand of football as they tried hard to score goals.
Rajesh Salgaocar and Sachin Chopdekar dominated in the upfront for Goa Police while Roshan Singh and LR Fela were at their best for Corps of Signals.
In the third minute itself Goa Police should have surged ahead as Abdul Kadar Khan delivered a well measured cross to Gulrez Khan however the latter couldn’t find the nets as his header ballooned over the crossbar.
LR Fela rushed as he sent a through ball to Ankan Dawn who shot it on target however goalkeeper Rupesh Kamat, was up to the mark to make the timely save for Goa Police in the 6th minute.
Goa Police rose again to threaten the rivals however Sachin Chopdekar left footer sailed over the woodwork of the rival team in the 10th minute.
Goa Police continued their threats as Rajesh Salgaocar attempted yet another strike in the 12th minute; the shot was however blocked by Kuldeep Kumar.
Later, in the 38th minute Ankan Dawn and Th Roshan combined well however in the end Th Roshan shot over the cross-bar.
At half-time both the teams were locked in a 0-0 score line.
Change of ends saw both teams trying to find the match winner, L Solomon Khongsai tried a solo effort for Corps of Signals but to his dismay the ball went wide.
The 47th minute saw Rajesh Salgaocar pass the ball to Swanand Naik who sent the ball back to rajesh who made the run into the danger area, the ball was however grabbed by the keeper.
Corps of Signals goalkeeper failed to collect the ball after Romenjit Meetie sent a back pass to the keeper
Rajesh made the run inorder to win the ball and shoot it home however his attempt was futile in the 50th minute.
After a lot of squandered chances Rajesh finally made amends after Sachin Chopdekar rolled the ball to him in the 70th minute, off which Rajesh scored the match winner for his team.
