PANJIM: Goa Police defeated Gumteshwar Warriors by two wickets to emerge champions in the Veling Cricketers Royal Twenty20 Championship played, at Veling ground, Priol, recently.
In the final, Gumteshwar Warriors won the toss and opted to bat scoring 104 runs losing all wickets in 19.1 overs. Puspashil Dessai 22, Mayur Nadkerni 21, Vikas Dessai 16, Amar Arkas 14 and Bharat Arkas 10 were the top scorers.
Abhijeet Taleker 4/24, Sanjay Naik 2/21 while Dhondu Tulasker , Vinod Wilson, Apali Kalangutker and Thango Naik claimed one wicket each.
In their run chase, Goa Police accumulated 105 runs losing eight wickets in 19.2 overs. Chandrakant Ghadi 33, Vinod Wilson 26 and Krishna Valvoiker 18 excelled in batting for the winners. Raj Raiker 3/20, Vinesh Satarker 3/25 and Tushar Sawant (1) performed well but could not contain the rival batsmen.
The individual prizes awarded were: Man-of- the Match Abhijeet Taleker, Best bowler Dhondu Tulasker, Best Batsman Bharat Arkas and Man-of-Series Chandrakant Ghadi.
