PANJIM: Team Goa excelled on Day 1 of the 62nd National School games in the sport of Sqay Martial Arts U-14 and U-17 boys and girls and Tchoukball U-19 boys and girls, at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa on Saturday.
In U-19 Tchoukball championship, both –boys and girls team reached the final in their respective category. In boy’s category, Goa defeated Assam 42-31 in the semis while the girls got the better of Vidhya Bharathi 58-11.
Earlier, Goa boys defeated UK, and Vidhya Bharathi in the knock-out phase while the girls edged past Gujarat and Jharkhand.
In Sqay martial arts, Goa won 6 gold and 2 silver medals in the U-14 girls category. The boys U-14 team managed to win two silver.
However, the boys U-17 team picked two gold medals while the girls won a gold and silver medal.
