MAPUSA: Goa Velha Sports Club registered a solitary goal victory over Sai Avtar Sports Club, Anjuna to enter the quarter-finals of Calangute Panchayat Cup all-Goa inter-village football-tournament organized by Calangute Association, at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Monday.
The all-important goal came early in the fourth minute through Chatur Naik, who nodded in from inside the danger zone by picking up an intelligent pass from Yogendra Thapa.
On Sunday, Pilerne Sports Club were lucky as they edged past Vailankanni Sports Club, Morjim vie tie-breaker 6-5. The teams were locked 2-2 at full time.
Arjun Shetgaonkar scored a brace for Vailankanni Sports Club while Ryan Pereira and Anson D’Souza found the net for Pilerne.
In the penalty shoot-out, Ryan, Royston Pereira, Prijesh Sawant and Pio D’Souza scored for Pilerne while Lincoln Fernandes, Panjak Morje and Edward Britto converted for Vailankanni Sports Club.
