MAPUSA: Goa Velha Sports Club were stretched into the sudden death where they finally got the better of their rivals Augustias Sports Club by a 8-7 margin to advance into the quarter-finals of the 14th Reira Soccer Trophy, organised by Saligao Sporting Club, at Saligao ground, on Monday.
The teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at the end of the regulation time.
It was Augustias that surged ahead in the seventh minute with Parunati scored in a goalmouth melee to give his side the lead.
Just two minutes before the final whistle, Goa Velha were awarded a penalty and Chatur Naik made no mistake to level terms to make it 1-1.
To decide the winners the penalty shoot-out was enforced where Goa Velha won the match by 8-7 margin.
