PANJIM: Goa Veterans defeated Thrishur Kerala to emerge champions in the All-India Veterans football tournament played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Kannur, on Saturday.
In an exciting match witnessed by a large crowd Goa dominated from the word go and surged ahead in the 20th minute giving no chance to Kerala goalkeeper.
Kerala Veterans did try to regroup but the Goa defense stood tough. Shaikh Aboo and Nelson were outstanding in defense.
In the second half Goa increased the lead through Salvador Miranda who nicely placed the ball into the nets.
Goa’s striker Vishant Pednekar was awarded the best player of the finals while Chandrakant Naik was awarded the best goalkeeper.
The chief guest Arjuna awardee Brahmanand Shankhwalkar was felicitated for his life time contribution to football.
