The Goa Chess Association has changed its name from ‘Goa State Chess Association’ to ‘Goa Chess Association’ at the general body meeting as per the directives of District Registrar (South) (DR). The DR has also granted renewal to the Association which was pending since 2000 after all necessary papers were presented.
The All-India Chess Federation (AICF) has also approved the change at its GB held on June 26.
The Association has also amended its constitution to provide for registration of the association under section 12A of the Income Tax Act and for availing donations eligible for deduction under section 80G of Income Tax Act.
The executive committee has decided to conduct taluka level chess tournaments to develop the game at the grassroot level and also for the benefit of the students for availing the additional 15 marks as per the new Sports Policy.
This will allow talents from various villages to participate in chess activities. This initiative has been taken by the association on the advice of SAG.
Each executive member has been given the task of organizing taluka level tournaments.
Taluka wise list of co-ordinators: Tiswadi (Ilhas) – Balakrishna and Shivswamy, Arvind Mhamal; Pernem: Dattaram Pinge and Vasant Naik; Bardez: Rohidas Tari and Avinash; Bicholim: Dattaram Pinge and Balkrishna V; Sattari: Shivswamy, Balakrishna V; Ponda: Amogh Namsikar, Vasant Naik. South Goa: Mormugao – M.R. Naik, P.P. Insulkar, Kishor Bandekar and Swapnil Hoble; Salcete: Ashesh Keni, Zambaulikar, Sandrick Culaso; Quepem: Sanjay Kavlekar, Amrut Naik; Sangem: Amrut Naik and Premnath Naik; Cancona: Sharendra Naik, Ramdas Sawant.
The age category for taluka level tournaments will be U-13 for students upto Std VIII, U- 15 for students upto Std X, U-19 for students upto Std XII. The duration of round will be two hours. Rounds will be either under Swiss or knock-out basis depending on the number of participants at taluka level.

The members appreciated the role of Ministry of Youth Affairs and All-India Chess Federation for selecting Goa’s star player, Bhakti Kulkarni for advance training in chess with a grant of Rs. 5 lakhs.
