DULER: Guardian Angel Sports Club registered a convincing 3-0 win over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium here on Thursday.
All the goals for the Curchorem side came in the second session with skipper Nicholas Rodrigues opening the account in the 46th minute and substitute Abel Hammond netting a brace (57th min and 86th min).
In the previous match of the league Calangute lost to Dempo SC by 2-1 margin, whereas, Guardian Angel SC had drawn against Sporting Clube de Goa 1-1.
Guardian Angel SC started with their newly signed Nigerian striker Mohammed Yakubu, while their coach Riston Rodrigues also gave a start to defender Allen Fernandes in the line up.
At the other hand, Calangute coach Alex Alvares brought in four changes Selwyn D’Souza in the goal, star striker Omkar More, defender Amar Halanker and Jayganesh Gotlekar.
The match started on a lack lustre football from both the sides with play being restricted to midfield for the first 25 minutes, which ended with a swift attack from the beachside when Bonny Niasso sent a perfect cross to Omkar in the box whose header rebounded off the crossbar.
Guardian Angel SC replied with a counter attack wherein their skipper Nicholas Rodrigues found Perryson Rebello in the box with an intelligent through pass but Calangute keeper Selwyn came with a brave save before any damage could be done.
The later part of the session witnessed few more attacks from the beach side but none of their forward managed to capitalize on their chances.
Omkar twice failed to keep his header inside the goal framework from close off Leslee Britto’s crosses.
On crossing ends in the 46th minute Guardian Angel SC’ skipper broke the deadlock with a superb goal from inside the box to send his side ahead. Nigerian striker Yakubu was the architect of the goal with a wonderful cross from the right.
A minute later, Yakubu once again played an excellent through ball to Perryson in the box but the striker saw his powerful shot zoom over the crosspiece.
Guardian Angel SC coach brought in Nigerian striker Abel Hammond from the bench in the 57th minute, where the latter scored from his first touch as he brilliantly headed in from close of Nicholas’ inch-perfect corner from the right.
Trailing by two goals, Calangute went all out in search of the goals but a goal eluded the strikes Omkar More, Blake Haldankar and Nigerian Kouame Joseph till the final hooter.
While Calangute failed to find the nets Guardian Angel SC further inflate their lead in the 86th minute when Abel made no mistake to put the ball into the nets, as he superbly took a chip shot over the out of position keeper Selwyn, to give full points for his team.
