MAPUSA: A late goal from Nicolau Colaco helped Guardian Angel Sports Club to secure a 1-0 win over Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the Goa Professional League match organised by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here on Friday.
Nicolau Colaco of Guardian Angel Sports Club scored the solitary goal in the 88th minute.
Guardian Angel Sports Club started the match on attacking note but it was Cavelossim who had the first shy at the goal first when newly signed Semson Fernandes tried his luck from the top of the box but keeper Ram Sroop made no mistake to block the same.
A few minutes later, keeper Ram once again came up with brilliant save to deny Semson.
Cavelossim almost opened their tally in the very next minute but Benzu Clemente came up with a goal-line clearance to stop Rohan Kamble’s goal bound shot.
In the 39th minute, Guardian Angel’s Rayman Fernandes sent a perfect through ball in the box to Perryson Rebello but Cavelossim keeper Siddesh Morje made no mistake to collect the same on time.
Post resumption, Guardian Angel looked spirited to get at least a goal as Aniston Fernandes had the first goal scoring opportunity of the second half for Guardian Angel but his right footed grounder was well held on to by Cavelossim goalkeeper Siddesh Morje.
Santa Cruz also looked determined for a goal through Richard Fernandes who crossed in a beautiful ball to striker Semson Fernandes but he failed to make any contact with the ball.
Guardian Angel came close to opening the scoring but Cavelossim goalkeeper made two back to back saves from Guardian Angel’s Myron Borges and Anthony Barbosa to deny Guardian Angel to get a goal.
Guardian Angel’s Perryson Rebello who managed to stay onside had a good chance to get his name on the score sheet but he failed to capitalise on the ball played to him by Nicholas Fernandes and only managed to have a weak shot at goal which was easily held onto by the Cavelossim keeper.
Guardian Angel’s Rayman Fernandes played a lovely ball to Nicholas Fernandes from the left flank who had a shot at goal but his shot was deflected and went out for a corner.
Moments later the game finally came to life in the 88th minute when Guardian Angel’s Nicolau Colaco headed the ball in the goal off a Nicholas Fernandes corner there was nothing that the Cavelossim keeper could do to keep the ball out.
Match ended with Guardian Angel Sports Club winning the match against Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, 1-0.
