PANJIM: Guirdolim Sports Club got the better of hosts Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda 5-4 via tie-breaker to book the place in the quarter-finals of Fr Agnelo Youth inter-village football tournament organised by Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda and played at Panchayat grounds, Avedem-Quepem, on Sunday.
Guirdolim Sports Club got off to a perfect start and surged ahead in the 10th minute of the match when Christopher Cardoso headed the ball off a corner kick, to the far corner of the net.
Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club came back strongly thereafter and levelled the score in the 20th minute through Cyril Dias after getting a beautiful pass from Manish Oliveiro.
There was no score in the second half and in the ensuing tie breaker Johnson Gomes, Moises Dias, Sharif Shaikh, Christopher Cardoso scored for Guirdolim Sports Club whereas Manish Oliveiro, Pascoal Fernandes and Cyril Dias succeeded in scoring for the host club.
Earlier, in another match, Margao Sports Club trounced Maina Sports Club by 6-1 goals via tie breaker.
The match was levelled at 1-1 at full time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Margao Sports Club proved to be better shooters.
