SANQUELIM: Holy Cross Sports Club Arambol scored a narrow 2-1 win over Sesa Football Academy in the GFA’s 1st Divison League, at Sanquelim ground, on Sunday.
In their previous leg encounter HC Arambol got past Sesa FA by 2-1 margin.
At halftime both the sides were tied in a goalless draw.
Changing ends, Sesa took the lead in the 61st minute of play when Arambol keeper Dietmar failed to hold onto Veegan Ferrao’s shot and the ball travelled to Kunal Salgaonkar who fired the ball home to make it 1-0.
Arambol finally levelled terms in the 75th minute of play when Amit Fernandes set up Shashank Asvekar who scored through a firm placement, 1-1.
The match winning goal was scored in the 83rd minute when Amit set the ball on platter to Dalesh Pednekar whose powerful right footer crashed into the Sesa FA nets after brushing the legs of the keeper.
At full-time the scoreboard read 2-1 in favour of Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol.
In another match, at Sangolda ground, Panjim Footballers scored a hard fought 2-1 win over Vagator PYSC.
Panjim Footballers now hold the top spot with 32 points from 14 matches.
The match was evenly battled by both the tems however Panjim Footballers proved to be the stronger side as the scored through Darryl Costa in the 18th minute and Presco Mauro in the 32nd minute.
Vagator PYSC were however resilient and didn’t give in easily to the toppers as Omkar Satelkar pulled a goal back for Vagator.
Vagator PYSC tried hard to find the equaliser but their attempts were in vain.
At Duler Stadium, Penha de Franca hammered Curtorim Gymkhana by a 6-0 margin.
Penha the Franca dominated the match proceedings at Duler as they trashed the rivals to achieve the astonishing win.
