PANJIM: Holy Cross SC, Arambol blanked Pilerne SC, Pilerne 5-0 to storm into the final of the 43rd Bandodkar Memorial football tournament in the semi-final played at MPT ground, Baina-Vasco, on Wednesday.
At the lemon break, the score was 0-0. In the very 3rd minute, Kevin D’Souza of Pilerne SC took a shot at the Holly Cross SC goal but the goalkeeper managed to save the goal.
Dietmar Fernandes of Holy Cross SC found the Pilerne SC goal area open and took a shot but failed to capitalize in the 8th minute.
Hemant Rodrigues of Holly Cross SC took a powerful shot but it was saved brilliantly by Pilerne SC goalkeeper Canute De Souza in the 14th minute.
In the 32nd minute, Bhavesh Candolkar of Pilerne SC made an attempt but missed to net in.
Post resumption, Holy Cross SC opened the scoring in the 40th minute with Stepelton Fernandes scoring off a pass from Dietmar Fernandes.
Pilerne SC in the 42nd minute made advances through Prashant Naik but was stopped in the goal area by the defenders of Holy Cross SC.
Within a minute, Bapu Pednekar took a corner kick and was headed by Shidhart Shirodkar of Pilerne SC but was saved by Nevile Rodrigues of Holy Cross SC by kicking the ball back into play.
The 49th minute saw Jason Fernandes of Holy Cross SC score a crisp goal off a pass from Hari Parab, taking the score to 2-0.
Within 10 minutes, Amit Fernandes of Holy Cross SC increased the lead off a pass from Dietmar Fernandes, taking the score to 3-0.
In the 60th minute, Stepelton Fernandes of Holly Cross SC took a shot that hit the crossbar and rebounded back into play to lurking Hari Parab, who made no mistake to shoot in the Pilerne SC’s net, 4-0.
Soon, Stepelton again netted to complete his brace off a pass by Amit taking the score tally to 5-0.
In the dying minutes of play, Pilerne SC forwards put pressure on the defence of Holy Cross SC for a scoring opportunity but could not succeed.
Ex-chairman of Mormugao Planning and Development Authority and Councillor of Mormugao Municipal Council Krishna (Daji) Salkar presented the man-of-the-match award to Siddharth Shirodkar of Pilerne Sports Club, Pilerne.
