MAPUSA: Host Augustias SC created history as they entered the final of the Augustias Soccer 2023-24 and emerged victorious with a solitary goal win over Sinquerim SC, Mayem, at Pomburpa football ground.
Rupesh Patil put Augustias SC ahead in the 28th minute, as he received a long pass from Akash Parwar to slot home with a fine touch with no answer from Sinquirim SC keeper.
Sinquirim SC tried to equalise in the second half but Augustias SC defence manned by Akash Parwar and Rohan Naik stood firm not allowing any damage to the Augustias SC citadel.
Sahil Parwar’s short ballooned over the crossbar. Saimesh Gaonkars short was stopped by Rohan Naik. Siddharth Palni’s strike was cleared by Augustias SC defender Akash Parwar.
Augustias SC were awarded a cash prize of Rs 40,000, while Sinquirim SC took home cash prize of Rs 35,000 and trophies.
Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Leopoldina Noronha, sarpanch of Village Panchayat Pomburpa; Francis Fernandes, president of Augustias Chapel, Leslie Fernandes, Kenny D’Cruz, Valerian Fernandes, Lawrence Pereira, Shailesh Kawlekar, Jerome Fernandes were the other dignitaries.
Man-of-the-match was bagged by Rupesh Patil of Augustias SC, player of the tournament was awarded to Abraham Fernandes of Augustias SC, Best goalkeeper was awarded to Aniket Naik of Sinquirim SC, Best defender was awarded to Mitesh Hoble of Sinquirim SC. Best discipline team was awarded to Dunes SC of Mandrem.
